Purpose/Principle
This real-time PCR assay is intended for qualitative detection and differentiation of HSV-1 and HSV-2 in cutaneous or mucocutaneous lesion swab specimens and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples collected from patients suspected of herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Special Collection Notes
Collect specimen according to standard operating procedure.
Processing Instructions
Store refrigerated and send on wet ice via courier.
If transport time is greater than 24 hours for CSF, freeze at -20 Celsius and ship on dry ice.
Do not freeze whole blood.
