Purpose/Principle
Quantitatively measure ammonia concentration in plasma.
Special Collection Notes
No CAPILLARY COLLECTIONS- must be collected by venipuncture. Best to collect without tourniquet, if one is used, place lightly and collect specimen within 1 minute. Collect on ICE. Cannot share containers with any other test.
Specimen Type
Plasma:
Green Top – Li Heparin (Preferred)
Purple Top – EDTA
Specimen Volume
Preferred: 1.2 mL
Minimum: 0.6 mL
Processing Instructions
Spin down ASAP, keep sample on ice if delayed. Pipette off plasma into pour off tube and freeze.
Store and send sample Frozen on ice, STAT via courier.
